Governance of Natural Resources
Governance represents both formal and informal systems of rights, regulations and arrangements, which shape access and use of natural resources.
The focus of this module is on understanding the quantity, quality and distributive implications of the existing governance regimes for the provision of ecosystem services in the Eastern Arc Mountains. A critical goal is to identify gaps and solutions that could secure and enhance the provision of ecosystem services in the future.
A map of governance regimes has already been compiled for the Eastern Arc region and two masters projects are starting up in Tanzania which will address issues of forest governance in the Udzungwa Mountains.
This work is being led by Sokoine university of Agriculture and University of East Anglia, in collaboration with Leeds University and Cranfield University.
